step one/uno/une

January 27, 2010

Ok…so we need to talk closets again, because it’s clear that you guys LOVE it and are desperately searching for some direction. However, instead of loading you up with too much at one time, we’ll make it a point to continuously give you organizing tips and inspirational, organizational (try to say that 3 times fast!)  ideas throughout the year to keep things in check. Today we’ll focus on generally getting started and how you can do it in the most stylish way possible…we are designers for pete’s sake!

While we aren’t professional organizers or anything, we know a thing or two about keeping things tidy which is the first step to a de-cluttered closet which puts you two steps closer to a Carrie Bradshaw closet-look-alike. Think of grouping similar items in clever ways like Sharilyn Wright does here. Instead of hiding those beautiful bangles, stack ’em high on a cool paper towel holder…

And for the rest of your jewelry,  consider these options all created with basic household items…

If you need to store items in bins, don’t go for the ordinary rubbermaid totes, opt for these by the fantabulous Victoria Hagan…

This image shows a fishbowl being used to store bath salt – which is GENIUS, but for your closet, consider throwing your balled up tights in all of this season’s fabulous colors.

Instead of smooshing and smashing our sacred handbags onto shelves, let’s give them the attention they deserve and hang them instead, like this…

I’m sure I’m not the only one tired of boot grime on my closet floor…so to circumvent that, try this hanging system…

We know this is a bit much to ask, but gosh, it’s just SO pretty! And, lastly, you gotta, gotta, gotta LABEL! It really helps! But if you’re gonna do it, please do it like this (or at least something like it =)…
